Formulary Correction Statistics
- Among original 2091 drugs:
- 334 unclassified drugs assigned classes
- 289 drugs assigned multiple classes
- 173 drugs discovered to be missing allergy codes
- Among additional 1827 drugs added:
- 25 unclassified drugs assigned classes
- 121 drugs assigned multiple classes
- 38 drugs discovered to be missing allergy codes
The knowledge-based approach has proven extremely valuable as a vocabulary correction tool. Of the original 2091 drugs in the formulary, 334 had no classification assigned by the pharmacy until the MED editor provided a list of them. In many cases (289) the MED was able to accommodate multiple classification of drugs, where the pharmacy system allows only a single classification. The check for discrepant allergy codes turned up 173 drugs (8%) where these were missing.
Over the ensuing two years, 1827 new drugs have been added and the MED maintenance process has continued to provide corrections to the formulary (as shown in the slide).
