iAnnotate Tab is an OWL based Protege plugin for manually annotating text or Web documents with ontology concepts. A user can select a fragment of text and create instances for a given concept.
Important features of the iAnnotate Tab
Save the annotated document in XML with 'class' tags enclosing the annotated text.
Web-browser to navigate hyperlinked documents. It stores and displays prior annotations for a given URL.
Open/Save an incomplete annotation document (as iAnnotate Model).
Add 'textual' documentation for a concept (rdfs:Comment).
Some sample applications of the Tab
NLP, Information Extraction: Developing semantically annotated corpus (e.g. annotation of biological pathways (BioPax), phenotypes (PATO) etc from biomedical literature and biodatabases)
Semantic Web: Creating Semantic Web metadata for Web documents (e.g. creating FOAF profiles from homepages, Semantic Web Service definitions)
iAnnotate is under active development. All comments and suggestions/feature requests will be appreciated ! just drop an email to me ($firstname.$lastname@dbmi.columbia.edu, where $firstname=chintan, $lastname=patel). Please don't send any iAnnotate Tab related emails to protege-discussion/protege-owl mailing lists as I don't regularly monitor them.
