My Great Asia Tour
In the summer of 1999, between my first and second year of medical school, I went for almost two months to explore the wonders of Asia.
I spent 11 days in Japan, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nara. I visited the imperial gardens in Tokyo, many beautiful temples in Kyoto and of course, the Peace park in Hiroshima. The sights were amazing, but the only picture I have on-line right now is of me feeding the tame deer that wander everywhere in Nara.
After Japan, I spent 9 days in Thailand, visiting temples and markets in Bangkok, shopping in Chang Mai, but also visiting a hill tribe, riding an elephant and spotting a snake while wandering through the jungle. I even took a cooking lesson.
Leaving Thailand, I went to Hong Kong, where I enjoyed Dim Sum, Victoria Peak, walking through the city and an impressively lame medical museum.
From Hong Kong, I joined a tour group. We took a ferry to Guilin and spent 4 weeks wandering through the wonders that are China.
